You don’t need to be perfect to be a present mom.

Let’s say that again! You don’t need to be perfect to be a present mom.
But you do need to be regulated.

And that’s the part no one teaches us.

We talk a lot about tantrums, meltdowns, defiance, and overwhelm — but what if those aren’t just “kid problems”?
What if they’re messages… signals that our children are absorbing more from our nervous system than from our words?

I learned this the hard way.
It wasn’t the routines, parenting books, or gentle reminders that made the difference. It was the moment I realized:

When I’m grounded, he’s grounded.
When I’m safe, he feels safe.
When I’m regulated… so is he.

That’s the power we carry as moms. Not through control, but through coherence.

What is Nervous System Co-Regulation?

Your nervous system is constantly communicating — to your child, your partner, your environment. When you’re in a stress response (fight, flight, freeze, or fawn), your child can feel it.

Not consciously.
But deeply, instinctively.

This is called co-regulation — and it means that your state becomes their template for safety.

The more you ground, the more they can too.
Not because you force calm… but because you embody it.

Tools to Regulate You (So They Can Too)

  1. Three Deep Breaths — Every Transition

    • Before you speak, move, or respond.

    • Make this your mini reset throughout the day.

  2. Mirror + Touch

    • Eye contact with your child while gently placing your hand on your own chest.

    • “I’m here. I’ve got me. You’re safe.”

  3. Grounding Before Reacting

    • Ask: Where do I feel this in my body? before reacting.

    • Just the pause helps interrupt inherited patterns.

These aren’t parenting tricks.
They’re healing practices — for you and your child.
